Rikolto can build on over 40 years’ experience in Senegal. In 2025, we reached 5,691 farmers.
Currently, we are running our Sustainable rice programme, and our Good Food for Cities programme in the cities of Dakar, Thiaroye-sur-Mer and Thiès.
Sustainable Rice programme highlights for 2025
The farmers' organisation FEPROBA has increased its reliability by securing a €600,000 commercialisation loan from the Agricultural Bank (LBA). Unfortunately, severe flooding prevented the cultivation of 874 hectares. In the River Valley, FPA farmers achieved record yields of 7–9 tonnes per hectare. This success was driven by a partnership with SFA (Durabilis), which provided the cooperatives with timely pre-financing for inputs, helping to bring over 6,400 tonnes of rice to market. We also began collaborating with 96 new women millers and parboilers from these organisations and facilitated €3,810 in financing via Baobab Microfinance for the parboilers at FPA. Nationally, we continue to inform policy by providing the National Scientific Committee (SAED, SODAGRI, CIRIZ and ISRA) with field evidence. We also supported CIRIZ in leading sector-wide consultations to resolve industry bottlenecks at the beginning of the year.
Good Food for Cities programme highlights for 2025
The Ndekki Sama Fondé initiative, a school porridge programme by the city of Thiaroye-sur-Mer using local cereals, scaled up from a pilot to 28 schools in 2025. Rikolto contributed to this progress through a pilot involving 122 children, supporting school leaders and management committees to improve menus and strengthen nutrition education. Since 2025, we have also been part of the Groupe multisectoriel sur l’alimentation et la nutrition en milieu scolaire (GMSANES), contributing to the evaluation of a national school food law that is currently under review. Through this platform, we are also sharing insights from our Good Food at School approach and lessons learned.
