Rikolto International s.o.n. (previously known as VECO/Vredeseilanden) attaches great importance to the protection of your personal data. We find it important to underline that we treat the data of our donors, participants to activities and sympathizers respectfully. We don’t pass them on to third parties, and people remain owners of their data in our database. We register them, on the one hand with a view on communication, and on the other hand for correct processing of donations, participation and other agreements and necessary business processes.

In this Privacy policy, we want to provide clear and transparent information about which data we collect and how we handle them. Rikolto International s.o.n. in all cases abides by the applicable laws and regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation. We also try to continuously improve and adjust.

This implies that in any case:

  • We process personal data in accordance with the objective for which they were supplied. These objectives and the kind of personal data are described in this Privacy Statement;

Why do we process your personal data?

Your personal data are processed by Rikolto International s.o.n. for the following purposes and legal foundations:

  • To be able to participate in the activities of Rikolto International s.o.n.; based on the execution of an agreement;
  • Sending newsletters and invitations: based on explicit permission of the persons concerned;
  • Obtaining government subsidies: based on legal obligations (e.g. in view of issuing tax certificates);
  • For awareness raising and information: based on a justified interest, being the continuation of the organisation (realisation of substantive and financial objectives);

For the purposes above we may request, store, collect and/or process the following personal data:

  • Personal identity data: last name, first name, address, phone number, e-mail;
  • Communication preferences;
  • Financial data, within the framework of a donation;
  • Other data, in the framework of participation to one of our activities.

We only use the data collected for the purposes for which we obtained the data and don’t keep them any longer than necessary.

Supply to third parties

In principle, we never provide data to third parties, except for processing and storage on our behalf. E.g. we use a third party for:

  • Webhosting;
  • Preparation (and distribution) of e-newsletters and invitations;
  • Sending print mailings by post;
  • Data storage.

We never pass personal data on to other parties we have no processing agreement with. With these parties (processors), obviously we make the necessary arrangements to guarantee safety of your personal data.

Furthermore, we will not provide the data supplied by you to third parties unless this is legally obligatory and allowed. For instance, in the framework of issuing tax certificates.

Minors

We do not process personal data of minors (persons under the age of 16 years).

Storage period

Rikolto International s.o.n. does not keep personal data any longer than required for the purpose for which they were supplied or than is required by law.

Data security

We have taken appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unlawful processing. For instance, we took the following measures:

  • We apply a user name and password policy on all our systems;
  • We regularly test and evaluate our measures;
  • Our collaborators are informed about the importance of protection of personal data.
