Côte d'Ivoire

In 2020, our Cocoa programme started to take shape in Ivory Coast. In 2024, we worked with 8,754 producers.

Since then, we have been able to scale up our programme, brokering relationships with supermarkets and companies, so that cooperatives can take part in sustainability programmes they have set up and form inclusive business relationships.

Sustainable Cocoa and Coffee programme highlights for 2024

In partnership with Guittard and the National Centre for Agronomic Research (CNRA), we focus on cocoa quality. We trained 30 youth as cocoa flavour coaches, who supported 133 producers in improving harvest and post-harvest practices. We also supported partner cooperatives CAFUGO, ECAM and SCAMED to implement new harvest and post-harvest protocols; these led to an increase in the weight of cocoa beans produced. In addition, an Advisory Group was set up with actors as ICCO, GIZ, the Embassy of the Netherlands and the Conseil Café – Cacao. This group provides feedback to CNRA’s technical work, aims to transfer flavour quality expertise to cooperatives, and expand research through new partnerships.
