Healthy Wave wants to contribute to the implementation of the European Child Guarantee. That guarantee states that every child in Europe, regardless of their background, has the right to access at least one healthy meal each school day. Healthy Wave focuses on children at risk of poverty and social exclusion and does so by working together with cities all over Europe.
For many children, a meal at school is the only proper meal in a day. But still too often that meal is not available or it does not meet nutritional,sustainability or affordability standards. Rikolto guides cities in creating a local action plan for healthy and sustainable school meals. For this, we start with a needs analysis and a stakeholder analysis, and we support the entire process through:
In addition, Rikolto is creating the ‘Healthy, Sustainable Food at School’ toolkit that helps cities to make sustainable choices around school nutrition. The toolkit evolves with the project: the first draft is discussed after the international study visits. After, it will be refined based on feedback from project partners and EUROCITIES’ ‘Children and Youth’ and ‘Nutrition’ working groups. The final version will be shared publicly.
