Rikolto builds on track record of over 40 years in agricultural development in the region. In 2024, we reached 2,692 producers in Mali.

Currently, we are running our Sustainable Rice programme in Mali.

Sustainable Rice programme highlights for 2024

Despite severe flooding that affected nearly 14,000 farmers and significantly affected paddy production, there has been positive progress in market development. The Agri-Business Cluster (ABC) approach has strengthened business relationships between IFRIZ-M, its members, processing units and industrial partners. This resulted in the sale of 3,500 tonnes to the Malian Office for Agricultural Products (OPAM) for government intervention stocks and a total of 8,550 tonnes of sustainable rice on the market. Rikolto also supported IFRIZ-M to operationalise its agreement with the BNDA (Mali’s agricultural development bank), which introduced financial products specifically tailored to the rice sector. Farmers' needs were identified and the products presented to them. To improve access to finance, we are also piloting two self-managed credit unions involving 65 women.
